Carers Self Assessment Pilot Project in Bristol

Exciting news for carers living in Bristol!

We have recently begun working in partnership with Bristol Adult Community Care on a pilot project on carers self assessment.  This provides carers with the opportunity to assess their own needs and ensure they have an individual assessment of their needs focused on them.

If you provide ‘substantial and regular’ care for an adult you have a legal right to a carers assessment.  This can happen even if the person you care for refuses help.  Where eligible a self-assessment could lead to some services being provided soon after the assessment has been received i.e. low-level aids and adaptations and telecare items or assistance from the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS).  Other, more complex needs such as arranging a break for the carer will still need to go to the locality team.

We at the PRT Carers Centre are able to provide further information about self assessment and can guide you through the process with one to one support if required.  In conjunction with carers we have designed a preparation guide which is a useful tool for helping carers think about their role and their needs prior to assessment.

If you would like to know more please contact the CarersLine: 0117 9652200, Monday – Saturday 10am – 1pm, or email: carersline@carers-bs.org.uk

Our preparation guide is available online in Adobe Reader format.   Click here to open the preparation guide in a new page.
