Why become a volunteer?:
• It's fun
• It helps you meet new people and learn new skills.
• It has a real impact on the people we support.
All volunteers receive training and support, can claim expenses and are really valued by the Carers Centre
We need volunteers who can help in the following ways:
• To befriend disabled or elderly adults, and give their carer a break. Just a couple of hours a week or fortnight can make the difference to the household, enable the carer to go out, and provide some interest and activities for their relative. No lifting or personal care involved.
• To help carers in the rural areas in a variety of ways, including befriending and practical help, and acting as a contact point for carers in the community.
• To become a friend and mentor to young people under eighteen caring for disabled parents or siblings, helping them to get out, join social activities and take up opportunities like other young people.
The Carers Centre often make use of volunteers in many different ways, and at present are looking at having volunteers working alongside the staff team in a clerical/administrative role at the centre. Existing skills are not necessary as some training would be available.
We also welcome fundraisers. Why not hold a coffee morning or join our other activities?
